Hello and my apologies for lacking on posting reports.
Summer fishing in the Lower Keys is much better all around than last year at this time. Water temps are much cooler this year which in turn make for better fishing in the warmer months.
INSHORE
Early morning shrimp hatches for juvenile Tarpon has been great, leaving the dock just before sunrise to target the area’s of the backcountry that these hatches occur. Looking for bird’s dipping down on the waters surface picking shrimp up and scanning for busting fish while running is is the tale tale sign of a hatch. Targeting these fish on light tackle artificial’s or fly is a blast and catching multiple fish is a bonus.
Once the sun gets high enough to sightfish moving on to Bonefish and Permit has been productive. The Bonefishing has really bounced back over the past 5 years to the extent of it was 20+ years ago before the freeze. Permit fishing has held steady with schools fish waking on the flats and in some areas large fish tailing. Targeting these fish on light tackle jigs, live shrimp, crabs or fly is the true test to inshore flats fishing.
Nighttime Tarpon fishing has been great at the bridges on the calm nights. Using dark colored flies or artificial shrimp lures on light tackle spinning rods have been super productive.
OFFSHORE
Mahi is the name of the game! Running and gunning looking for birds, weed lines, and floating debris has produced nice catches of Mahi. There are a few Blackfin Tuna out there as well if you are far enough out but most of the Mahi fishing has been in 600′-900′.
LOBSTER
Lobstering has been a blast, this is one of my favorite times of the year. Snorkeling in 4′-10′ of water is what we do so we can accommodate any experience level. This is a true hand’s on experience and fun for all involved. I personally get in the water with all my lobster charters to show the best techniques and ensure that everyone is catching. The limit is 6 per person and I do my very best to ensure everyone catches their limit. This has been one of the more productive lobster seasons I’ve seen in the past few years. I have already booked the first 4hr trip for mini season 2025 so please call and reserve asap if your interested in mini season for next year.
